What Is Watch Authentication?

Watch authentication is a detailed inspection and authentication process designed to guarantee a timepiece’s authenticity, condition, and functionality. Each watch is assessed by trained specialists who examine the movement, case, dial, bracelet, serial numbers, and overall performance. Once completed, the watch is authenticated and is issued a warranty card, confirming it meets our strict standards.

Step 1: Initial Intake and Provenance Checks

All watches are sourced through trusted suppliers or verified private sellers. Sellers must provide valid identification and proof of ownership. Watch details are recorded at intake to guarantee full traceability.

Step 2: Serial Number Verification

All watches are sourced through trusted suppliers or verified private sellers. Sellers must provide valid identification and proof of ownership. Watch details are recorded at intake to guarantee full traceability.

Step 3: Full Physical Inspection

A thorough external inspection is conducted, including: Case shape, engravings, and finishing
Dial layout, fonts, markers, and lume
Hands, crown, clasp, and bracelet construction. Every detail is compared against manufacturer specifications for the exact model and year.

Step 4: Internal Movement Examination

The watch is opened and inspected internally by experienced watch specialists. The movement is checked to make sure it is: Correct for the model
Genuine and unmodified
Free from non-original or counterfeit components

Step 5: Multi-Expert Authentication

Authentication is not performed by a single person. Multiple specialists independently review the watch, assessing numerous brand-specific details. This dual-verification process reduces the risk of error.

Step 6: Servicing and Functional Testing

Once confirmed authentic, the watch is cleaned and serviced if required and tested for accuracy, power reserve, and overall performance. It is also pressure-tested for water resistance, where applicable. Watches are then monitored over time to confirm consistent operation.

Step 7: Documentation and Warranty Issued

If original papers are missing, Milton's provides its own warranty documentation, linked to the watch’s serial number. Every watch is sold is authenticated and includes a Miltons Diamonds warranty card.

Step 8: Final Approval Before Sale

Only after all checks are complete and signed off is the watch listed for sale and displayed in-store or online. Any watch that does not meet our strict standards is not sold.
