Tudor Watches: Do Rolex Own Tudor?
• benjohnson
Tudor has been around since 1926 and has an excellent reputation in the luxury watch world. Tudor is known as a more affordable option compared to other brands, yet it still carries a high level of luxury and prestige.
A commonly asked question when it comes to the history behind Tudor is whether Rolex owns the company.
Let's find out in today's blog where we will look into the rich history that Tudor holds and whether Rolex owns Tudor.

The Link Between Rolex and Tudor
Hans Wilsdorf founded Wilsdorf and David, the brand that would later become Rolex, in 1905. Wilsdorf later founded the brand Tudor in 1926.
Whilst Rolex and Tudor were created by the same person, each brand is unique and they are completely separate luxury watch brands.
Tudor was created when Hans Wilsdorf noticed that there was a demand for a more affordable alternative to a Rolex. Tudor began to use the Rolex Oyster case for their watches to give their customers a similar quality to Rolex with a lower price tag for a short period.
In the beginning, Tudor was just viewed as a cheaper alternative to Rolex – people overlooked the quality that Tudor watches held. However, as time went by and the brand became more popular, it is now seen as a quality watch manufacturer in its own right.
Rolex doesn't own Tudor. Both companies are owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, making them sister companies.
Qualities of a Tudor Watch
One of the most loved things about Tudor watches is the impeccable quality that each timepiece holds.
All watches are handmade in-house by specialist watchmakers, and with the company being linked to Rolex, it is not unlikely that some of Rolex’s watchmakers help out in the making of a Tudor watch and vice versa. This means you can truly rest assured that the quality of each watch is of the highest value.
Some of the qualities of a Tudor watch include:

Luxury Materials
One thing about Tudor is that they never limit themselves to producing high-quality products. To guarantee this, all of their wristwatches are made from luxury materials such as stainless steel, ceramic and many more precious metals.
Accessible Luxury
The purpose of Tudor was to bring more accessible luxury to the market. Hans Wilsdorf knew that everybody wanted a Rolex but not everybody could access a Rolex, which is why he made Tudor more affordable.
You are still getting a high-quality wristwatch but for a lower cost. Even though today, Tudor shares similarities with Rolex, the prices are still a lot more accessible, and the brand shouldn't be seen as just another cheaper alternative.
Timeless
Tudor watches are timeless and haven't gone out of style since they were first introduced in 1926. This means you won't have to worry about your watch going out of style – we guarantee you will still love it years down the line.
Which is better? Rolex or Tudor?
Although separate companies, it is likely that they share resources or techniques and even watchmakers. This means that Tudor watches and Rolex watches can be made to similar standards.
The question of which watch is down to you and your personal preference and budget. Each brand has designs and models that are unique to each other, so there is no right or wrong answer.
